Essay Topics

Common App Essay

I felt it was very authentic; talked about the border inspiring my passion for public service; alluded to passion towards history; maybe not the best written piece, but I felt it really encapsulated who I am.

University of Texas at Austin โ€” Supplemental

Automatic admit, so I put very little effort into this; only applied to liberal arts honors; most were essays I wrote for other applications that I did not send after my REA acceptance; not my best work.

Princeton University โ€” Supplemental

Put a lot of effort into my "Why Princeton" essay and felt it was the strongest supplement I wrote; my difficult conversation one was unique and talked about bridging ethnic divides; my service essay wasn't my best work but my common app talks a lot about service so I thought I was fine there; extracurricular experience essay was pretty good and talked about my congressional internship; I really liked my "more about you" short essays and felt they were short but effective.

Interview Experiences
  • Princeton University
  • Performance/Outcome: Interviewer was really nice; talked about the intersection of statistics and public policy; went slightly over time; connection over Zoom slightly lagged.
Letters of Recommendation
  • AP World History Teacher

Said it was powerful, very close relationship, did very well in class and AP exam; very passionate about teaching and his students.

  • AP Lang Teacher

Did very well in his class; loved my writing style; had similar interests; was involved in class discussion even during online school; I think he is a pretty good writer.

  • Counselor

I have no idea on this one; she likes me a lot but I do not know how much she knows about me.

  • Public Official

Close relationship while working for them; well-known public figure locally and nationally.
